On a brisk night in Fredericton, over 70 players made their way to the LBR for the first night of the Fredericton touch league. With their sneakers tied, shirts on and hair done the Baby Elephants would take on the Port City Penguins in the inaugural game. The Penguins would score early and often with some good slicing and dicing by Cammy “I Eat People” Ough and Walker “Wacky Legs” Blizzard with the husky gentleman having no answer. But in a strange turn of fate the husky gentleman of the Baby Elephants found their legs and lungs and possibly a Big Mac and would come back and score a few nice tries however too little too late with the PCP coming out on top 8-6.
Next up the Lanky Locks and all their sexiness and awesomenss took on the ugly, smelly and somewhat questionably dressed team Burt’s Allstars/Positively HIV. However it would not be the Locks night with the BAPHIV walking (figuratively not literally since they were running the entire time)all over them 15-1. The combination of Upper Canadian/Greasy Lawyer Colin Alexander and young man child Conner Lewis proved to be too much for the overall greatness of the tall distinguished gentlemen.
The ladies would take the floor next with the Grey Bush of UNB taking on the Lady Loyalists. This was a very fast game from the get go with Lindsay “Okitoks” Rose and picking off a pass and going the full length of the gym to open the scoring. The Loyalist would not be out done with some good smart play but Emy “Break a Leg” Ritchie running some good ball and supporting. It would prove to be the blond power of UNB with Lindsay Oakes touching two down and Michelle “Don’t have a last name on the sheet” scoring the other and the Gray Bush of UNB coming out 3-2.
UNB B took the floor next against the new CIS rugby team STU. This would be a back and forth game with no team giving any holes to run. Karly “Funky Chicken” MacKenzie played solid for her team with some really good runs and smart play. Emily Nearing would be her nemesis on the STU team with the same type of play. They played to a draw 0-0 but were on the edge of scoring many times. Next week the tries will come.
The third game for the men would see the Potato Pickers take on the young upstarts on the Kowalski Killers.. The PEIers must have been squirting some potatoe juice and moonshine in the eyes of the Killers at the start because they were able to put up some quick tries by Dave “The Evil Chucky Doll” Misener and Jon “Wu Centre God” Parkman. The KKs did start getting the idea of the game with Cesar “Manic”Morales doing some good running out there and Andrew “MMA Machine” Thomas doing some good hustle. However, the Anne of Green Gable lovers’ experience proved too much for the young team with a final tally of 10-0 the Potato Pickers.
Finally, the Free Agents team lead by import Dunu Eliaba took on the slightly old, worn and bellied team The Has Beens. This would prove to be a very entertaining game with good back and forth play and skill. Two NB U16 players Mike “Broken Neck” Thurber and Alex “Do Well” Duguid would both touch down for the Free Agents through some good running and youthful energy against the old farts. However, B-Ray would bring out his infamous shuffle and tight shorts and bring his team back with some good running and knowledge. As well, Jude would help out the Has Beens with 3 tries of his own which help push the to 4-3 for the used up people.
Thanks for everyone for coming and hope everyone had fun and got some exercise throwing the ball around. If you have any suggestions for next week please feel free to message me. I am always open to help. Cheers.
