The club had a very successful day on Saturday with 2 wins, home and away, and a great first day turnout to Mini-Rugby.
Here's is the recap of the game action from today's paper:
"The Fredericton Loyalists avenged their season-opening loss to the Saint John Trojans with a convincing 54-18 victory in New Brunswick Rugby Union A Division action.
After a slow start and a 13-6 halftime deficit, the defending provincial champion Loyalists roared back with a 48 points in the second half.
James Mitchell, captain of the recently crowned provincial champion Loyalist U-20 side, led the way with three tries while single tries came from Trevor O’leary, Jasmin Kukavica, Andy Nyehuis, Chris Aaen and Todd Beck. Brent Rowney added four converts and two first-half penalty kicks. Scoring for the Trojans were Paul Vernell, Cameron Ough, Brendan Johnstone and Troy Dixon with a penalty.
In B Division action, the Loyalists were home to the Valley Wildmen. The home side ran out to a 22-0 halftime lead and cruised to a 26-19 victory. The Loyalists got five tries from five different players – rookie Jesse Gauvreau, Russell Garber, Brian Jones, Justin Acorn and Brent Garrish. Callum Aldridge had four converts and a penalty. The Wildmen were led by Brock Drost with two tries and Eric Lyons with a try and two converts."
Meanwhile, in equally exciting news, we had over 50 kids at the first day of Mini-Rugby.
That is as big a turnout as we have ever had. It's a wonderful problem to have but we do need some extra help with the coaching of this big a group so if you are free Saturday at 10 please let me know and we'll find a way for you to help!
Saturdays in September really are the best!
Stay Classy,
Si
